Permanent Collections
On the ground floor, you can see an old bar counter like those shown in costumbrista films of the Mexican Golden Age cinema; behind it are collections of soda bottles, projectors, toys, puppets and a wide variety of pieces. On weekends the space operates as a bar–restaurant and multipurpose room where readings and guitar concerts take place. On the second floor, objects are displayed with museography divided into the historical stages of Mexico, starting with images of deities and pre-Hispanic objects and ending in a corner where garments, weapons and newspapers from the revolutionary era are shown, after passing through the Colonial and Independence years. On the third floor, the arrangement repeats, but this time it represents the different rooms of a house: from an Art Deco style bedroom to dining rooms, living rooms and salons where cameras and an impressive collection of old clocks, jewelry and decorative Chinese objects produced centuries ago can be seen. In the first room called México Histórico there are a Carabina 33-31 and a rifle used during the revolutionary era; there are photographs of revolutionary figures. There is another room dedicated to Mexican cuisine with cooking utensils such as pots, metate, molcajetes, etc. The Sala llamada de la Reforma exhibits furniture, clothing, utensils, etc., juaristas, many of which belonged to Dr. Barragán. The Sala de arte popular shows a national shield made with feathers from birds of different colors; likewise there is a collection of coins and banknotes used in Mexico's historical periods; there is a sample of Mexican silver, notably a jewel case belonging to Mrs. Soledad C. de Lerdo, wife of Miguel Lerdo de Tejada. The Sala dedicated to photography features different cameras and photographs taken with them; in another, there are typical bedroom items from the colonial era, as well as jewelry and cosmetics used by women of that era; there is also a phonograph, one of Thomas A. Edison’s great inventions. In the toy room, various items used by children of that era are displayed. There is also a room dedicated to instruments used for pulque preparation.
