Permanent Collections
In 11 rooms are presented furniture and personal objects that surrounded Venustiano Carranza (the Varón de Cuatro Ciénegas). The first, titled Carranza, el hombre, is divided into two sections: it presents the family origins in Cuatro Ciénegas, Coahuila, and his involvement as a public official during the Porfiriato. The second room, Carranza revolucionario, is also presented in two parts: the first covers his role as Madero’s ally during the 1910 Revolution, and how later, with Madero's assassination in 1913, he was compelled to take up arms against Victoriano Huerta, initiating the Constitutionalist movement. The next section centers on the conflict after his victory over Huerta, now with Emiliano Zapata and Francisco Villa at the Convention of Aguascalientes and how he was forced to go to Veracruz to establish his Government. In this section, Carranza’s uniforms, decorations and the currency used by the various revolutionary factions are on display. The third room is Carranza, el reformador, where a facsimile of the Constitution of 1917 is exhibited; it discusses the constituent deputies who participated in drafting the Magna Carta, the decrees by Carranza prior to the Constitution that served as the basis for the 1917 Constitution, and the tour ends with his death and the explanation of why the Agua Prieta rebellion broke out and how, while Carranza attempted to reach Veracruz a second time to reestablish his Government there, he was assassinated. It has new rooms that incorporate the latest scholarly work on Venustiano Carranza’s biography: his civilian life, his participation in the Mexican Revolution, his political acumen, and some lesser-known aspects of his private life.
