En el área sur las dos primeras salas corresponden a la cultura olmeca. Posteriormente tres salas están dedicadas a la cultura del centro, divididas por complejos culturales. Al final se encuentran piezas de la cultura huasteca.

Cuenta con dos espacios de exposiciones temporales ubicada en el nivel de acceso general y la Galería del Mezzanine en el segundo nivel. El objetivo de estos espacios es la promoción del arte mexicano contemporáneo, enfocado primordialmente a difundir la obra de artistas de reconocida trayectoria.
