Sala 1. Periodo arqueológico clásico
This room features artifacts from the earliest Xajay-Otomí culture on record dating back to 600 BC; there are carved stones bearing the faces of the gods Tlaloc, Quetzalcóatl, and Coatlicue from the Teotihuacan culture.

Sala 2. Periodo arqueológico Posclásico
The Toltec and Mexica cultures produced the largest settlements; as a result there is an offering belonging to a warrior named Ocho ojo de réptil, and according to their customs, depending on the rank they held in life was how he should be buried.

Sala 3. Novohispana
A period aligned with the Franciscan order. The images on display are religious in nature; some pieces such as the crosses characteristic of the oratories of the Mezquital Valley, the Christ Positional painted on raw linen glued to wood, and the portrait of Archbishop Manuel Antonio Rojo de Luvyan.

Sala 4. Música y pintores
Dedicated to the illustrious composer and musician Abundio Martínez, who was born in this city and at a young age achieved great success with a total of 200 compositions including waltzes, polkas, chotis, dances and pasodobles. In the 19th and 20th centuries there was a flowering of painting with notable artists such as Manuel Chávez Nava, Máximo Pacheco, Tiburcio Sánchez de la Barquera, and Fernando Stringhini.

Sala 5. Sala de la independencia, Chapitel
Located beside the museum, founded in 1812 in commemoration of the Grito de Dolores; the balcony echoes the words spoken by General Ignacio López Rayón, accompanied by Andrés Quintana Roo and José María Chito Villagrán.
