El museo fue instalado en el picadero por ser un lugar característico del Arma de Caballería y cuenta con 10 salas donde periodiza y se exalta la importancia de la caballería en los diferentes acontecimientos históricos de la nación:
Recepción: Se explica de manera clara y extensa la historia del edificio que ocupa el museo.
Sala de la Conquista, este periodo se ubica temporalmente de 1519 a 1810, se considera el inicio de la caballería debido a que es cuando el caballo es traído a América por los españoles.
Las siguientes salas muestran cronología de:
Independencia de 1810 a 1821
Intervenciones de 1838 a 1867
Porfiriato de 1877 a 1911
Revolución de 1910 a 1914
Posrevolución de 1914 a 1940
