Permanent exhibits consist of 27 rooms featuring a colonial-era virreinal art collection, including paintings, sculptures and various objects from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Highlights include La Pasión de Jesús, by Gabriel José de Ovalle; La Vida de la Virgen, by Miguel Cabrera and Antonio Torres; Las Alegorías, by Cristóbal de Villalpando; and a library with over nine thousand volumes dating from the 16th to early 20th centuries on philosophical, theological and hagiographic topics. Representative rooms include: Claustro de San Francisco (displaying 26 canvases in their original order); Escalera Regia (a Baroque marvel with three large canvases, two by Miguel Cabrera, whose imagery underscores the power of images in evangelization); Coro; Claustro de la Pasión de Jesús.
