Permanent Collections
In its four permanent galleries it exhibits collections of prehispanic Maya, colonial and contemporary pieces and objects. Mérida Prehispánica contains artifacts relating to the Maya culture and the prehispanic city of Th’o or Ichcaanzihó (ancestor of Mérida). The Colonial or Mérida Novohispana room presents objects related to the founding of Mérida, education and evangelization, the first City Hall, defense and armament, daily life, among others, illustrating Mérida’s history during the Colonial period. Mérida in the 19th century and the early 20th century presents items on topics such as economic growth and city development; haciendas henequeneras, education, politics, immigration, architecture, society, styles and influences during the 19th century. The 20th Century displays objects related to Modern Mérida, cultural movements, sports, architecture and traditions.

On the museum’s first floor they showcase current trends in visual arts through painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, video and installation; thematic exhibitions related to Mérida’s history are also presented there.
