Recorrido — highlights include ceramic pieces known as patojos, tripod vessels, stirrup-spouted and pouring vessels, all characteristic of Purépecha culture; axes, hatchets, needles, bells and bronze ornaments (copper-tin alloy); beads, polished obsidian ear pendants, some inlaid with turquoise; projectile points, knives and other lithic artifacts, and some petroglyphs. These objects provide a general view of the material culture of the upper strata of Purépecha society. With reference to various plates from La relación de Michoacán, they can be seen as part of daily life in domestic, ritual, religious, productive activities, etc. The Purépechas or Tarascans were noted for their sophisticated techniques in pottery, metallurgy, and stone polishing.
