Permanent Collections

Permanent

Permanent exhibits: Mensaje en el agua. The great cistern or water box was planned in the colonial era to, in addition to supplying water to the people of Tlatelolco, transmit a public message: with the new Christian religion the inhabitants lived in harmony among the lakes. When the Spanish authorities gave the instruction to end the site, indigenous hands carried out the order and did it as their tradition dictated: in a sacred manner. That is why they cut the walls from the outside, threw the fragments onto a bed of adobe inside the box, and packed compact earth. This method of burying the vestiges allowed this heritage to survive until today.
