La colección que muestra el museo es el resultado de las excavaciones arqueológicas, análisis y clasificación de piezas encontradas en el sitio a partir de 1987, cuando en Casa Talavera se realizó una excavación. La ventana arqueológica conservada desde entonces, es un elemento importante al mostrar las distintas etapas constructivas del edificio, en las épocas prehispánica y virreinal. Las vitrinas exponen objetos ligados a la vida cotidiana de los primeros mexicanos, como son vasijas decoradas, cucharas, navajas y raederas para limpiar pieles, además de un conjunto de malacates de distintas formas y tamaños, con los que se hilaba lana y algodón. La muestra incluye algunos sellos y figurillas de barro cocido. Se exhiben también fragmentos de la cerámica que se fabricaba en el lugar, además de la que llegaba de otros sitios y que probablemente se utilizaba como piezas de muestra o de intercambio.
