Museum Exhibitions
Permanent Collections
Permanent exhibits include four rooms: Sala 1 - presents the theme El Desierto Actual, where visitors learn what the desert is and who inhabits it, with information on flora, fauna and human society; Sala 2 - covers regional history from the Ice Age to the Pleistocene; the arrival of humans to America; the use of lithics; the coexistence of humans with megafauna extinction: mammoths, gomphotheres, sabre-toothed tigers and glyptodonts; in a historical aside or information island, it discusses the evolution of hominids; near the end of this hall, the history of American horses, quadrupeds that already existed in American territory since the Pleistocene, long before the arrival of Spanish conquistadors; Sala 3 - is devoted to the great inhabitants of the Cretaceous period, of which there is abundant paleontological evidence in Chihuahua; the biogeographic region is larger and spans much of present-day North America; MUDECH's distinctive feature are scientific replicas, molded from original fossils, never before exhibited in Mexico; these pieces are life-size and will be popular with dinosaur enthusiasts; Sala 4 - continues the dinosaur theme, with two Stegosauruses and two Dilophosauruses, species from the Jurassic Period.
