En sus salas de exhibiciĂłn se explica la domesticaciĂłn del maĂz silvestre y el control del agua desde Ă©pocas tempranas, que dio como resultado que —a lo largo de 12 mil años— se llevara a cabo la transformaciĂłn de las aldeas en centros urbanos con organizaciones polĂticas y econĂłmicas desarrolladas.
Entre los objetos exhibidos, destacan una urna mixteca que representa a un guerrero; utensilios de lĂtica y cerámica, máscaras y chimallis (escudos); las mazorcas de teocintle (especie silvestre más cercana al maĂz) más antiguas del actual territorio mexicano, localizadas en las cuevas de Coxcatlán; y ejemplares de semillas de plantas de origen prehispánico.
Adicionalmente, existe una secciĂłn de figurillas de dioses prehispánicos, una exhibiciĂłn sobre jarcierĂa y cesterĂa, además de un pequeño jardĂn en donde se muestra una variedad de plantas endĂ©micas.
