Recorrido: As part of the tour, the eighteenth-century Baroque retablos of the church of San Francisco Javier; the Capilla de Los Novicios, decorated with the coats of arms of the first religious orders that evangelized Nueva España; the old library, which houses books from the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; and the various areas that formed part of daily lifeâthe kitchen, la cava, el frigorĂfico, el refectorio and la huerta. The space features six permanent exhibition rooms: Museo HistĂłrico (718 mÂČ); Monjas Coronadas (330 mÂČ); Artes y Oficios (442 mÂČ); Personajes Novohispanos (126 mÂČ); Oriente en Nueva España (233 mÂČ); and Jesuitas (147 mÂČ). The works are classified according to the materials used in their creation, their use and their origin. The sculptures stand out for the quality of their carving, particularly the estofado technique and elements such as glass eyes, tears of crystal and natural teeth; in metalwork, mainly gilded silver, the techniques and stylistic currents of the viceregal period are evident; textiles, such as capas, estolas and casullas, are a faithful expression of religious ornamental art; plumage art, a heritage of pre-Hispanic Mexico, was combined with the oil painting; and finally, in furniture, styles such as Baroque, Renaissance and Neoclassical are evident.
