Permanent exhibits include Sala Un museo: Various buildings recount the history of the site where this museum now stands and its link to educational activities, from Calmécac (school for the sons of nobles) in Ancient Mexico, through the Convento de la Encarnación and up to the founding of the Secretaría de Educación Pública by José Vasconcelos in 1922; In the Galería Muralismos you can journey through the mural tradition from ancient rock art in the Sierra de San Francisco in Baja California and murals created by ancient Mexicans, through Mexican muralism of the 20th century to contemporary mural painting; Sala La pintura a tus sentidos: A multisensory space with four stations inspired by the building’s murals, beginning with pottery, continuing with representations of national festivities, and ending with the importance of preserving heritage; Sala de Lectura Luz Jiménez: A space promoting reading and the visual arts, featuring walls with drawings by children illustrating their narratives in various indigenous languages; the texts and illustrations were collected by CONAFE; Salón de Docentes Ilustres: The mural La imagen del hombre by Luis Nishizawa is accompanied by 11 busts honoring iconic teachers, highlighting their importance, presence and permanence within the national education system; Galería El edificio como símbolo: Tells the story of the building’s symbolic construction and focuses on linking educational life to aesthetic experience, briefly noting the building’s uses from liberal reform to the inauguration of the SEP and the re-signification of the building with the Vasconcelist project and Jaime Torres Bodet’s management up to the creation of CONALITEG; Sala Murales y su interpretación: Provides an introduction to identify and learn about the materials and tools used in paintings created with encaustic, fresco, and tempera techniques, all part of the Museo Vivo del Muralismo’s artistic heritage; Los antiguos Salones Históricos now open to the public. The tour begins with Salón Benito Juárez, continues with Zapata, Simón Bolívar, Justo Sierra and ends in Vasconcelos’ office, where you can discover the manifestations of mural painting and the aesthetics of Roberto Montenegro; Sala Muralismos y experimentación addresses the experimentation with materials used in mural development, from acrylic paints to research for mural restoration; Galería de Secretarios: Alegoría al desarrollo de la comunicación painted in the former Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Obras Públicas.
