Permanent Collections
The museum consists of two rooms: Cihuatecólotl (<i>Mujer Tecolote</i>) and Colhúa (<i>Hombre de Hombros Anchos</i>), names that, according to the founding account, gave origin to the town of Epazoyucan. Some of the displayed objects date from prehistory, such as scrapers and basalt percussion tools; others belong to the preclassic and Teotihuacan periods, for example figurines and a clay appliqué representing a snail. Additionally, the collection includes pieces from the Tenango and Mesa de San Marcos archaeological zones; malacates, obsidian blades and figurines representative of the Aztec domination period, as well as figurines and ceramics from the colonial era. Visitors can also appreciate images of the area’s economic activities—from ancient times to the present—such as obsidian extraction, maguey leaves, and textile manufacturing.
