Ten permanent exhibition rooms: Sala 1.– Prehispánica: In this room, 56 pre-Hispanic vestiges were found in the municipality's most important archaeological zones; it includes an interactive touchscreen and a projection that complements information about these objects. In addition, one of the cubicles used for conjugal visits at the jail has been preserved, fitted with a stained-glass window and two pairs of shoes. Sala 2.– Españoles: In this room two pieces are exhibited: a facsimile of a Spanish helmet and an oil-on-canvas portrait of Hernando de Martell. Sala 3.– Santa María de los Lagos: It houses a facsimile of the founding act of the Villa de Santa María de los Lagos; the room is decorated with the city landscape on the walls and at the entrance to the next room there is a wall carving left by one of the prisoners in 1904. Sala 4.– Virreinato: This room presents 22 pieces representing Lagos during the Viceroyalty, including polychromed wooden sculptures, portraits of religious images and everyday objects. It includes a stained-glass window over the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, an interactive display with four touch screens and an LED screen that streams a video about the citys religious events. Sala 5.– La Reforma: Exhibits four portraits of illustrious figures from this era: Ignacio Zaragoza, Benito Juárez, José Rosas Moreno and Agustín Rivera. Sala 6.– Independencia: This room features 11 pieces: a portrait of Juan Pablo Anaya, a portrait of Francisco Primo de Verdad, a portrait of Rita Pérez de Moreno, a portrait of Miguel Hidalgo, two portraits of Pedro Moreno, two portraits of Miguel Leandro Guerra, a Monumental Flag, a Tricolor Flag and an Expeditionary Tricolor Flag. Sala 7.– Porfiriato: The room dedicated to the Porfiriato era features a marquetry wooden chest; eleven pieces of wood and porcelain of German, Chinese, French and English origin and two original diplomas from the First Floral Games held in the city in 1903. Sala 8.– Primera mitad del Siglo XX: This room is devoted to Lagos' notable artists; it also displays a large portion of Mario Gómez Mata's personal library and some of his personal items such as two typewriters, a photograph, his glasses, a camera, press badges, a medal and a Mi Ciudad award. It features 28 Lagos de Moreno photographs along a timeline from 1880 to 1959, an early-20th-century desk with its inkwell and pen and a portrait of Mariano Azuela. It also includes a replica of a Botica with 30 pharmacy jars, an oil lamp, ceramic mortars, an old telephone, a balance with period weights, handwritten sales books from 1928 and 1936, an old kit of pill compressors and jars of ingredients for mixtures. Sala 9.– Paisajes de Lagos: This room displays 13 Lagos landscapes painted by artist Jorge Navarro, two panoramic views by Guillermo Chávez Vega and four commemorative objects from the IV Centenary (a poster, a vase, a plate and an offset printed cultural program from 1963). Sala 10.– Segunda mitad del Siglo XX: There are two paintings by the artist Carlos Terrés.

It has a temporary exhibition room: Sala de Exposiciones Itinerantes, located opposite the entrance to the Centro Cultural y Museo de la Ciudad.
