The museum's collection is divided into six permanent galleries and one temporary gallery. Through the objects on display, it tells a historical narrative that spans the region's prehistoric populations, the discovery and conquest of the Baja California peninsula by the Spaniards, and the making of the traditional clothing of the ranchero of southern California; it includes a collection of religious art, sculptures and weapons from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as farming tools and utensils, and a sample of popular crafts that offers a general view of regional trades.
