National Museum of Watercolor Alfredo Guati Rojo

Features six permanent exhibition rooms: Sala Prehispánica of 31.74 m². The Sala Prehispánica presents two murals by maestro Alfredo Guati Rojo, one of which narrates the museum's history through glyphs. In this room you can also find different representations of prehispanic art, as well as facsimiles of codices and reproductions of prehispanic mural paintings, highlighting the works of Agustín Villagra Caleti. Sala Siglo XIX of 43.74 m². The Sala Siglo XIX offers an overview of watercolor technique from the late 18th century to the early 20th century, a period in which watercolor gained greater prominence within the plastic arts. Works by Manuel M. Ituarte, Leandro Izaguirre and Pastor Velázquez, among others. The latter was a teacher of notable watercolorists of the second half of the 20th century such as Edgardo Coghlan, Manuel Arrieta and Alfredo Guati Rojo, to name a few. Sala Internacional of 43.63 m². Within this room you can find works by watercolorists who participated in past editions of the Bienal Internacional de la Acuarela. The Bienal was instituted by maestro Alfredo Guati Rojo in 1994, being one of the international cultural projects that Guati Rojo managed to promote the watercolor technique. The works come from countries such as Australia, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Venezuela, E. U. A., Brazil, among others. Sala Nacional of 75.16 m². The collection of this room is comprised of Mexican artists, most of whom have formed part of the Sociedad Mexicana de Acuarelistas founded by maestro Alfredo Guati Rojo. This space consists of two parts, the first dedicated to the precursors, who made watercolor important in the artistic sphere. The second part is dedicated to the transición, as works by painters who were students of the first Mexican watercolorists are exhibited. Works by Luis G. Serrano, Raúl Anguiano, Rafael Muñoz López, Edgardo Coghlan and Martha Orozco, among others. Sala Contemporánea of 25.57 m². In this room are represented artists who have stood out in watercolor contemporary for their career, quality and proposal. Watercolor contemporáneo in Mexico has a wide variety of proposals and is characterized by an intense handling of color and contrasts. Works by Ángel Mauro, Herminia Pavón, Ma. Eugenia Anduaga, Bernardo Hernández, Dolores Vaca, Francisca de Diego and Beatriz Gaminde, among others. Sala Alfredo Guati Rojo of 94.83 m². In this room you can admire works by the founder of the museum, which reflect the solid academic training he acquired as a student of the Academia de San Carlos. The themes characterizing Guati Rojo's work displayed in this room are childhood, clowns as a symbol of human nature, women, the elements prehispánicos, the self-portraits and nature. Most works are watercolor but there are also lithographs, pastel, charcoal and oil, other techniques that the master Guati Rojo also mastered.

Gallery Berta Pietrasanta (255.71 m²). This space is devoted to presenting temporary exhibitions featuring works by various artists, both national and international, who have distinguished themselves in the watercolor technique.
